WELCOME MINISTRY
Making folks feel welcome and included from the parking lot to the worship center doors.

Description: This is an excellent place to get started in the world of service. Includes opportunities to assist people in finding their way around Avalon Church, making people feel at home and welcomed as they arrive, or showing hospitality by serving coffee and drinks. Everything you will do will communicate “we are happy you are here.”
USHERS
Assisting people once they enter the worship center or children’s areas to provide a safe, secure environment.
Time Requirement: 3 to 4 hours per month on a Sunday morning

Description: Serving as an usher is another great way to help Sundays be a safe and enjoyable experience for our church. Responsibilities include helping folks find a seat in the worship center, assisting with the collection of the offering and directing people to evacuation routes in the case of an emergency. The Usher ministry team offers a place of service for everyone, from trained medical personnel to folks who simply like to assist others.
VISITOR CONNECTION TEAM
Letting our visitors know we care about them with a timely follow up connection.
Time Requirement: Varies; typically 4 hours a week, one week per month

Description: This team’s desire is to begin connecting first-time guests into church life with a timely, personal contact. Team members are available at the welcome counter on Sunday mornings to gather information and answer questions then follow up the next week with a short visit to present a gift and/or make connection phone calls.
CHILDREN’S MINISTRY - Facilitators
Sharing foundational truths with our preschool and grade school children.
Time Requirement: 2 hours per Sunday (a single service), plus 2 hours of preparation, for one year

Description: This is the place where young lives are influenced for a lifetime. Facilitators will be trained to present biblical truths that shape our children’s understanding of God and His love for them. For consistency and relationship, we request a one year commitment. Requires permission to conduct a background check.
CHILDREN’S MINISTRY – Assistants
Providing a loving and safe environment for our children
Time Requirement: 2 hours per Sunday (a single service), once per month

Description: The world of children needs to be safe, loving and conducive to learning. Our Children’s Ministry Assistants provide the extra hands and warm smiles that show the love of Jesus to our youngsters, from infants to 5th graders. Requires permission to conduct a background check.
AWANA
An exciting mid-week program for our children and youth
Time Requirement: 2 hours on Wednesday evenings throughout the school year.

Description: Awana is an action-packed evening of learning and games for children and youth. The combination of story time, Bible memory verse recitation, projects and a high-energy game time requires lots of adults giving lots of personal assistance to lots of kids. WORSHIP TEAM – Choir
Using the gift of song to enhance the worship experience

Description: Throughout the Bible music has been an essential element of worship, a unique and special connection with God. Joining the choir provides an opportunity not only for you to “sing your heart out for Jesus” but, as importantly, to also lead others on a path to intimacy with the Lord.
WORSHIP TEAM –Tech Support
The behind the scenes work of ensuring our sound, video, and stage lights work just right
Time Requirement: 3 to 4 hours per month on a Sunday morning

Description: Our Sunday morning worship times are enhanced by the amazing equipment we have installed in the worship center. However, amazing (and expensive) equipment takes amazing people to operate it all properly. You could be one of these people.
WORSHIP TEAM – Chair Setup
Making sure 500 people have a place to sit when they arrive on Sunday
Time Requirement: ½ hour on Wednesday after AWANA, and/or 1 to 2 hours on Friday evenings beginning around 6:30pm (sometimes Saturday evenings)

Description: Our worship center is a multi-use room and changes configuration numerous times throughout the week. Usually the biggest setup is the one that occurs on Friday (occasionally Saturday) evenings in preparation for Sunday services. This team is a fun-loving bunch who somehow make hefting chairs an enjoyable time.
SPECIAL SERVICE PROJECTS
Special and focused times of good old fashion work at or on behalf of the church

Description: Sometimes things just need to be done. Building things. Moving things. Cleaning things. Serving people. Could be at the church but more likely in the community. Special skills appreciated but usually not necessary. This is a chance to be the hands and feet of Jesus to folks in our neighborhood.
HOMELESS MINISTRY
Reaching out to the homeless in our community with meals, clothing and time
Time Requirement: 2 hours on Sunday afternoons

Description: The homeless community in East Orlando is a very special group of individuals; people who, like all of us, need to be valued and assisted at times. The relationships you establish will affect you for a lifetime.
MINISTRY THROUGH MEALS
Assisting families with a touch of hospitality in times of need

Description: Sometimes the distraction of preparing meals is just too much for person or family in a time of significant illness or loss. You do not need to be a chef to take advantage of this opportunity but just have a few moments to prepare food and deliver to the designated location.
HOSPITAL VISITATION TEAM
Assisting individuals and families by making personal visits to those who are in the hospital

Description: A required stay in the hospital can be a lonely or scary time. You will be provided with guidelines for making an effective and meangingful visit; but the most important element of this ministry is to simply spend time with people in a challenging time.
